Diane Sawyer of ABC News did a particularily interesting segment tonight on education in China. Here are some of the things she reported.
1. The USA has dropped from #1 in the world to #12 in the world in the number of per capita college graduates.
2. China this year will graduate four times as many college grads as the US.
3. Chinese grade school students spend 41 more days a year in the classroom and have 30% more instruction hours per year than US students.
4. The Chinese education system is rigorous and learning is by memorization. The American system is creative, original and inventive....thank goodness!
